This tradition started in the 1980s and was known as Chicano Graduation at the time. It was a celebration of the Latino/a graduates that took place originally in the Faculty Room of Nassau Hall. It was an intimate gathering with friends and family the Saturday before Commencement, with a guest speaker and a stole bestowed to each graduate. Since then the ceremony has grown in size and scale and is now know as the Latinx Graduation ceremony. It has now moved to a larger venue on campus that allows for more family and friends to participate. A keynote speaker along with a representative from the Association of Latino Princeton Alumni (ALPA) address the graduates, who as you can above are given their own stoles as well to celebrate their heritage and culture.
